Am I Really Ready?

Get Out & Go Tours offers a wide range of trips for cyclists of differing capabilities. Some are for novice, while others are for more advanced cyclists.

C&O Canal Tours

Sampler: This trip is ideal for all cyclists. Novices can complete the distance, and we frequently have participants who are non-cyclists for this tour.

3-day: This trip is designed so INTERMEDIATE CYCLISTS will enjoy the tour, and will afford ADVANCED CYCLISTS time to explore on their own. Inexperienced cyclists should build mileage and saddle time so as to complete two 30 mile back-to-back days and 10 miles per day for a week, to be ready for the tour.  Tour leaders will provide information, maintenance support, and assistance with cycling or lodging related issues.  Any active person should be able to complete the tour with proper preparation.  There is no age limit, however, discretion should be used to ensure participants are capable of riding 60 miles in one day.  Space in the vans to carry cyclists who opt not to ride segments is available, but limited.  Tour support can advise the best sections to shuttle around and to ride, for those desiring shorter daily mileage. Read more about Westbound and Eastbound trips. For pre-formed groups that want more sightseeing and less per-day mileage, we offer a five-day eastbound C&O Tour with a highlight section of the GAP trail also included.

4 and 5 day: These tours are excellent for INTERMEDIATE cyclists, and very appropriate for NOVICE cyclists, as they cover less miles per day, generally, than the 3 day tours, and they offer more time for off-trail sightseeing, such as the Antietam Battlefield and Harpers Ferry, and they provide more time for stopping and hanging out, or relaxing in town after a day's ride, and enjoying the local townspeople, sights, and fare.

Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal Tour (Eastbound and Westbound)

The trip is designed so INTERMEDIATE CYCLISTS will enjoy the tour, and will afford ADVANCED CYCLISTS time to explore on their own.  Tour leaders will provide information, maintenance support, and assistance with cycling or lodging related issues.  Any trained, active person should be able to complete the tour.  There is no age limit, however, discretion should be used to ensure participants are capable of riding 60 miles in one day.  Space in the van to carry cyclists who opt not to ride segments is limited. Read about Eastbound and Westbound trips. Again, a shorter per-day mileage 8 day eastbound variation may be executed for pre-formed groups.

Tour of the Virginias

Tour of the Virginias is a great trip for NOVICE CYCLISTS, as it provides moderate daily cycling mileages, some rest day opportunities, and terrain that is easy. The tour affords INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED CYCLISTS time to explore on their own and some optional challenges, such as a single-track morning in the heart of Mt. bike heaven, Pocohontas County, WV. The daily riding nature of the tour means that participants should spend some time preparing for the tour, by riding 10 miles every other day for a week, and 15 miles in back-to-back days the week prior to the tour. Tour leaders will provide information, maintenance support, and assistance with cycling or lodging related issues. Any active person should be able to complete the tour. There is no age limit, however, discretion should be used to ensure participants are capable of riding at least 30 miles in one day. Space in the vans to carry cyclists who opt not to ride segments is available, but limited. Tour support can advise the best sections to shuttle around and to ride, for those desiring shorter daily mileage. Read more about Tour of the Virginias.
